A new generation of Erasmus students has arrived on the soil of the University of Economics in Bratislava. To introduce them into Erasmus life and the Slovakia, the local ESN EU section has prepared for them a weekend full of amusement events and parties. Let’s take a short look at how it was.

The last Friday before the start of the new semester, a Welcome Day took place. All new Erasmus students have met in the Aula in the University campus where the vice-Rector for international relations, Mr. Boris Mattoš, and the Chief of the Erasmus-IN Office, Mrs. Katarína Majerská, have given introductory speeches and officially welcomed new students on behalf of the University. Then, a small presentation of Slovakia was showed to the students and at the end, the ESN EU staff gave all information necessary for the student life. After the official programme, sightseeing of the University campus closed the Welcome Day. All students have been invited on the Pizza & Beer Night which was organised by the ESN on the Friday’s evening.

Saturday was devoted to the City Photo Tour of the Old Town of Bratislava. The task was simple: take a selfie in front of 10 important points in the City Centre. More than 70 students divided into 11 groups were doing their best to complete the task and meet at the Castle. Some people have taken it in a very competitive way, others chilled out and went in a Coffee shop for a small break – discovering of the city is a very difficult activity. All students received Horalka at the Castle, a famous Slovak snack, for free, and the winners got a free entry to the Slovak Dinner, which was organised on Tuesday. Just a couple of hours later, the biggest party of the weekend, the Metropol Erasmus Welcome Party, took place with special offer for the Tatra Tea.

The Sunday afternoon was the perfect time for the Devín Castle trip. Although the castle on the confluence of Danube and Morava rivers was closed, the students could enjoy the vicinity and the nature near the castle. The most waited action of the Welcome Weekend, the Barathon, took place on Monday evening. Six bars, six different drinks and one big party at the end. All new Erasmus students got the basic knowledge where are the best bars in the city, and could taste drinks they would probably never drink, like the B52.

To make a good ending after this weekend, the ESN EU prepared the Slovak Dinner on Tuesday. The Bratislava’s restaurant “Flagship” prepared for Erasmus students typical Slovak meal, drinks and other food that is the “must” when you are in Slovakia.

We would like to thank to all who participated on the Welcome Weekend, as an organiser or as a participant on different events. We hope you have enjoyed it and you can look forward to other ESN EU events.
