There are a lot of nationalities on our University of Economics. You can find Spanish, Italians, Germans, but also Slovenians, Lithuanians or Finns. How they communicate? Do they have some secret “Erasmus language”? Yes and it is not English. The only common language connecting not just the Erasmus students, but all people all across the world is… FOOD!!!
The last day of March 2016 was dedicated to the International Dinner, a part of the Mov'in Europe events. For the ESN Slovakia, the International Dinner was the third event of this kind, organised by all the ESN sections in Bratislava. The event has taken place in the student campus Mlynská dolina, one of the most famous student places in Slovakia. The ESN members prepared the space of the University Pastoral Centre, who gave to disposition one part of its rooms, and the dinner could start!
Obviously, the biggest table with food was under the national flag of Slovakia. To present the Slovak national cuisine, the main place was given to “our” famous drinks Kofola, Vinea and Rajec, sweet biscuits Horalky and Mila, Slovakia chips of different taste, but also to home-made sausages, “korbáčiky” and potato pancakes with meat. Although the bryndzové halušky weren’t present, the food has met a big response among the Erasmus as well as Slovak students.
But the other nationalities couldn’t stay ashamed and they accepted the challenge! Horalky and Mila faced Madeleine, a French sweet biscuit, and Belgian-Flemish coffee biscuits. Romanian students have brought a sweet home-made Halva, made from sunflower seeds. One Spanish student was back home few days before the International dinner so we could taste a fresh Spanish sausages and cheese. The biggest interest aroused a soup of two Chinese students, the recipe coming probably from the biggest distance on the event.
The International Dinner wasn’t just about the food from different corners of the world, but also about spreading the ideas and the information about mobility programmes such as Erasmus, Erasmus Mundus, CEEPUS and the others. Slovak students could meet former Erasmus students as well as foreign students doing their exchange stay in Slovakia. Because #mobilityisalifestyle :)
