Bratislava takes its beer just as seriously as its more famous neighbor Prague, and a new wave of independent microbreweries and pubs is putting the city on the beer drinkers map. Event Beer tasting offed a beer experience where we learned about local brewing and developed our own preferences while tasting and identifying flavours in different beer styles.
The ESN EU Bratislava has organized in the end of February an evening trip to a brewery here in Bratislava. The participation was “high” – almost 15 Erasmus students have taken part there. SHENK is a family, craft brewery in Bratislava´s Old Market Hall. The owners believe in beer as a true genuine product in its most natural and healthy form - so they cook it fresh and nonfiltered.
After we came to Shenk, we went to the main "room" of the brewery where they cook their beer. Mr. Brewer, a co-owner of the brewery, introduced us to the basics of brewing and told us about different types of beer. He explained to us the process of beer cooking, showed us boilers where they are making the beer and let us to try hops which they are using. Before, during and after the beer theory, we were able to taste 5 different beers for free.
In the great atmosphere of brewery, we have tasted beers while listening to the stories about beers. All of the tasted beers were excellent, some even better than the others (according to each one’s taste).
In the end, we all were happy and satisfied, sipping on the beer of our choice.
